Player of the Week
Week Two saw several very strong performances, but none quite as dominant as Jeff Bagwell’s of the Boston Red Sox. Bags had a solid if unremarkable game in Opening Week, but in this game he forced everybody to take notice. He came up to the plate eight times, and crossed back over again to score eight times. He drew one walk, hit two doubles, and batted in eight runs, but what really stood out was his five home runs on the game. That’s more than anybody else was able to record in the first two games combined, and caused Bagwell to shoot up to be the (very early) leader in the MVP race.
Honorable Mentions: Brad Radke (7-for-7, 2 1B, 3 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 7 R), Ernie Steele (8-for-8, 1 1B, 7 2B, 11 RBI, 6 R)
