Welcome to the Island of Misfit Toys.
We’re the Seattle Mariners. Playoffs don’t happen. Runs aren’t scored often. Our list of players other teams want is…. 3.
Has any team ever done less with more? Armed with the second best arsenal of picks at one point, how does this team happen?
Memes. Memes happen. 2 shortstops? Check. 2 pitchers? Checkaroni. Every player has an arm rating of 4 or above, with the lone offender being our team captain Debby Nagasawa? Yessir. The two shortstop idea was something I was thinking about since before the draft. When we got the opportunity to move back into the late first round and make it happen, we jumped on it. Should we have? No.
We built a good defense, this is true. In testing, Pablo himself called it “really solid” as he scored 10 runs in an inning and a half. So that’s nice. A few teams in the AL have run into the gauntlet that is solid 15 run defense. If you can score more than that? Well… You win. Congrats. You’d probably be able to beat me if I had an offensive team.
Should we have traded out of really nice 103/104 picks to get 4 picks in a row at the end of the 6th? No. Did we? Yes. Why? Memes. We also nearly made a 3 team trade happen. Multiple times. This season is a throwaway season for the Mariners anyway, might as well have some fun and see if we can’t get Debby the RBI record. Lord knows we aren’t scoring runs any other way.
Predicted finish: 5-9, third in the NL East.
