[BBL S4] Aesnop Reviews The Early Trades

Guest writer Aesnop, notable for performing the most early trades and successfully trading his Mariners to a position where they have all nine players by the end of Round 6, provides this look at all of the early trades.

Aesnop reviews BBL trades. 1-18. The following are my opinions using my draft chart. This does not look at players drafted, just the trades. Because that is all I care about.

Number 1) EX trades 29 and 77 to BB for 4 and 196.

Holy s***, what an absolute overpay. I have the #4 overall pick worth about 60 spots (spots being anything unequal, with heavier weight the lower the repaid draft pick is). EX paid 95. Not only that, he took on a 9th rounder, which is worth -30 spots. Basically EX paid double what the pick was worth. Awful trade. (Editor’s note: Amended original blurb to reflect the fact that EX and not BB paid the steep price.)

Number 2) EX-b trades 24 48 and 120 to MV for 1 97 and 145.

MV blundered this a bit. Trading down 23 spots AND the number one overall pick to move up a total of 51 spots is really poor. Should have been closer to 75-80.

Number 3) The Blockbuster between YY and ME.

This one was closer than the others, but realistically the picks should have been 4th and 5th that were swapped. More of a nitpick, really.

Number 4) AE trades 7 and 79 to JY for 13 and 37.

First round picks after top 5 are worth about 30 spots. Trading a 4th rounder for a 2nd rounder is worth about 10-15 spots or so on top of what you make. About a 50 spot swing, depending who you ask. This trade was not my idea but took about .1 seconds to accept.

Number 5) AE trades 31 175 and 199 to DR for 104 128 and 152.

The trade that SHOULD make people’s blood boil. On the surface, its fairly even, maybe even leaning DR. Getting out of a 9th and 8th rounder is worth about 50 extra spots, which quickly gives the edge to the team moving down. This trade was my idea. Sorry.

Number 6) 14 trades 11 and 131 to C8 for 18 and 66.

14 wins this trade. Doesn’t need too much coverage. 65 spots for 7 is just ridiculous.

Number 7) AE trades 13 151 and 152 to YUb for picks 46 94 and 142.

Not sure I won this one, TBH. I wouldn’t have offered if not for the next trade. 68-66 spots makes this the most even trade I’ve made yet. I proposed this one in conjecture with the next.

Number 8) AE trades 37 and 55 to YY for 17 and 89.

Not too much to say about this. This trade was proposed before the last one, the last one went through first and after some decision making on YY’s part, this went through. Comes out to -16 spots in favor of AE. I didn’t propose this.

Number 9) SD trades 33 and 81 to MV for 25 and 121.

8 spots for 40. The 30 spot rule doesn’t apply to a trade like this, otherwise it’d be closer. MV wins their second trade attempt.

Number 10) EX does a thing with MB.

Really like this trade for both teams actually. EX gets out of the 9th which is a big big plus, MB gets a coveted player in excha- what’s that? 9th round picks are worth -30 points? 8th round picks are worth -20 points? MB got secretly demolished here?
Yeah, another trade that looks close but isn’t. Well done EX. (Editor’s note: This trade did not fully get the Melonheads out of the ninth round, as they had two picks there before the trade.)

Number 11) AE trades 46 and 94 to MEb for 23 and 143.

53 spots for 49 spots. Second time AE has traded up while gaining spots. Amazing. How does he do it?

Number 12) NF trades 88 and 112 to 14 for 59 and 179.

I’ll tack on 10 spots for the 3rd rounder, so its 39 for 67 spots. Under 30 spots isn’t the WORST, I’d even accept it if it was the first round. But it’s not. This should be closer to 20 spots total. 14 wins this, but it’s a bit closer than first glance.

Number 13) MV trades 24 and 120 to AE for picks 23 and 127.

*Giggles* I knew who I wanted and knew they wouldn’t be picked til around 28 or so. This is as far back as I was able to trade and gaining 7 spots is gaining 7 spots. Extremely even, but it’s still funny. Wasn’t my proposal.

Number 14) YU trades 51 and 75 to TY for 30 and 126.

Throw on 20 spots for the 2nd rounder and TY wins by 10 spots. This is extremely even and I like it more for YU overall. Good trade.

Number 15) NF trades 40 and 160 to SD for 57 and 105.

F***ing overpay holy s***. 17 for 55? For second round s***? Nah. 7th round picks lose 10 points.

Number 16) 14 trades 83 and 203 to YU for 99 and 126.

14 with another tremendous trade, I hate this trade for YU. I don’t know why you’d ever do this. 16 spots for 107 is just f***ing awful. (Editor’s note: Swapped the names around as it was YU who paid the premium price for pick 83.)

Number 17) MV trades 33 127 and 193 to YY for 37 113 and 185.

This is a good trade. 22 for 6 is even in the second round, could even say it leans YY.

Number 18) C8 trades 90 131 and 138 to MV for 49 169 and 185.

61 for 85 seems pretty even to me. Probably could convince me 49 adds 15 or so spots. I like it. Good trade for C8. OH WAIT. C8 TAKES ON 7th and 8th ROUND PICKS? Bad trade for C8. Love it for MV. 76 for 115. (Editor’s note: Swapped the names around as Aesnop got the trade backwards.)
