This series will help coaches and spectators, old and new alike, get a better idea of who each of the participating coaches is from a BBL standpoint. We asked the coaches a set of questions about their experiences with Backyard Baseball and the BBL:

Preferred Alias/Nickname: ๐ฃ
Any details on your life outside of the BBL that you would like to share? I am 26 years old and I teach high school math at a small Christian school. I’m also the basketball coach there; we won our league championship last season! I’ve always loved baseball, basketball, and football ever since a young age. And since my playing days are pretty much over, I’m reliving the glory with my virtual playing days!
How long have you been playing Backyard Baseball? How did you get started with it? I started playing so long ago, I don’t even remember where/how/when I got my first Backyard Baseball game. But I’ve been playing since a young age. BB2001 was released when I was about 7 so probably somewhere around then.
What’s your preferred version of Backyard Baseball? Backyard Baseball 2001! I have played both 2001 and 2003 for many years but 2001 takes the cake for me.
What’s your favorite field? Steele Stadium. The nice short center field fence allows a lot of home runs, and it also feels like my own backyard.
What’s your favorite team to play as? I love to play as the Expos or Devil Rays because they don’t exist anymore.
What’s your favorite real-life team? San Francisco Giants ๐งก๐ค
Who’s your favorite Backyard Kid? Pablo Sanchez! Because of course. If he’s too cliche to be my favorite, then I would pick Angela Delvecchio. She’s a finesse pitcher, drops bombs, and doesn’t care what nobody thinks of her.
Who’s your favorite Pro Kid? Randy Johnson. He reminds me of myself more than any other pro. (Except he can probably throw a little harder than I can)
Who’s your favorite generic player (if you have one)? Chico Pappas! He always destroyed my teams when I played against him, he has a cool name, and I just had one of the best offensive seasons of all time with him in BBL Season 3
How did you get into the BBL? I’m a mod of /r/BackyardBaseball. I had some conversations with Yurya on the subreddit. When he posted asking for signups for his inaugural BBL experiment, I was one of the first to come aboard!
Briefly explain your history in the BBL. I have a reputation for hitting a lot of home runs. I established the league record for home runs by a team with 68 in Season 1. I pushed that number to 95 in Season 2 and an even 100 in Season 3. Unfortunately, that hasn’t translated into any BBL championships yet. I finished 2nd and 3rd in Season 1 (out of 8 teams). Finished 2nd again in Season 2 (out of 8 teams). In Season 3, I was eliminated in the first round of both the Tier 1 (top 8) and Tier 2 (middle 8) playoff brackets.
What are your hopes and/or expectations for this season? I’m going to capture my first BBL Championship! And hit some home runs along the way.
